The day she walked into her father’s compound two weeks ago there was joy and happiness. Daisy Barongo was in a gown after graduating with a degree in Architecture. When she comes back on January,2 a week from now she will be in a coffin.
Barongo died together with her cousin Clinton Maosa through a road accident along the Narok- Bomet road on their way back to her home in Kisii from Nairobi on Christmas eve.
Barongo had just graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture Engineering from the Technical University of Nairobi while her cousin graduated with a degree in education. Their family had a week ago held a joint party for them at Barongo’s family home in Nyamira. It was the last time the two were seen alive.
“I was preparing a meal for my son. I sat outside anxiously waiting for him to arrive from Nairobi where he works. I was very happy when he informed me he was visiting home,” Clinton’s mother Roda Moraa has said in an interview with Nairobi News.

Ms Moraa spoke to her son on the morning of December 24 just before Clinton and Barongo embarked on their ill-fated journey using a Mercedes Benz belonging to their cousin Duke Juma. Along the way, Clinton informed her mother regularly about where they had reached.
The cousins even took photos along the way which were posted on social media. Then they suddenly stopped.

Two hours later Moraa says she received a call from her firstborn son Kevin Omote who informed her that all was not well. According to Omote who was the first one to receive the news that his brother had been involved in an accident, he did not believe it.
“I received a call from a cousin and had to confirm from Daisy’s sister who also told me the same thing,” said Omote.
A police report filed at Ololunga police station indicates that the accident happened at 11:20am.
“The self-involved fatal road accident involved a motor vehicle of registration number KBN 444B make a Mercedes Benz Saloon (sic),” the report read in part.
The report added that the driver lost control of the vehicle and rolled several times before landing on the opposite side of the road.
The driver identified as Duke Juma, a cousin of the deceased and the owner of the car, Michael Makori, a friend, and Winnie Kerubo, also a friend, were injured.
