The average number of sexual partners among Kenyan men is 7.4, a new report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) shows.
The report dubbed the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey (KDHS) 2022, KNBS found that among Kenyan women have an average of 2.3 sexual partners.
Interestingly only 24 percent of women with more than one partner use condoms while 45 percent of me use the life saving contraceptive.
Kenya is one of the countries with the highest rates of HIV/ AIDs with a prevalence rate of 4.7 percent.
“Of those with more than one partner in the last 12 months, 24% of women and 45% of men reported using a condom during their last sexual intercourse,” the report said.
The sample for the 2022 KDHS was drawn from the Kenya Household Master Sample Frame (K-HMSF), which is the frame that KNBS currently operates to conduct household-based sample surveys in Kenya.
Data collection for the survey was carried out from February 17 to July 13, 2022.
In the 12 months before the survey, 19 per cent of women had sex with a person who neither was their husband nor lived with them.
However, only 37 per cent of these women reported using a condom during their last sexual intercourse with such a partner.
“Thirty-five per cent of men reported having sex in the last 12 months with a person who neither was their wife nor lived with them, and 68% of these men reported using a condom during their last sexual intercourse with such a partner,” the report added.
