Jubilee party nominated Mp Sabina Chege has hit out at retired president Uhuru Kenyatta for following Raila Odinga blindly while failing to exert his leadership on his own party.
While speaking at an interview on Inooro TV, Sabina said that Jubilee politicians have tried reaching out to the former president countless times for guidance but he has remained aloof.
“As we waited for his leadership, we saw him aboard a truck in Kisumu (after Prof George Magoha’s burial ceremony) declaring that his party leader was ODM’s Raila Odinga,” she said.
She further accused Uhuru of letting ODM shortchange them yet many of his allies lost their seats in the last election for sticking with him.

“Personally I had been approached with an offer by the Kenya Kwanza Alliance to be Nairobi gubernatorial seat running mate, but I turned it down for your sake,” said Sabina.
“You did nothing to build us to become accomplished leaders compared to how we are seeing other party leaders do,” she reminded Uhuru.
Uhuru’s commitment to Azimio La Umoja coalition and his Jubilee party has been rather mild since Raila Odinga lost the election last year. Over 30 Mps from the party have since aligned themselves with Kenya Kwanza as the party struggles with a leadership crisis.
According to Sabina, the party’s greatest weakness at the moment is lack of leadership from the former head of state. As a result, she said, the Jubilee party has been taken over by other parties in the Azimio Coalition.
“The biggest betrayal was prior agreement that we from the Mountain would give Nyeri politician Priscilla Nyokabi the chairmanship of the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) so that she can push for one man one shilling principle of resource allocation,” she said.
She added that the lack of seriousness by Uhuru to lead his party is the reason why two factions are fighting to control it at the moment.
Since his retirement, Uhuru has been quiet on party matters, with former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni taking the centre stage.
Kioni has since been suspended as the secretary general by the National Executive Committee. He was replaced with EALA MP Kanini Kega. Also suspended are Treasurer Kagwe Gichohi and vice chairman David Murathe. A court has however given them a life line.
