Muslims for Human Rights (MUHURI) has elected former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga as the chairperson of its Board of Directors. Mutunga who was Kenya’s CJ from 2011 to 2016 will take over from Khelef Khalifa afte being elected unanimously.
The human rights group has in a statement said that Mutunga’s grasp of matters human rights and the law will help it advance its goal of fighting impunity.
“He brings an immense wealth of experience especially in the civil society and human rights sectors,” the statement reads in part.
Mutunga joined the Mombasa-based non-governmental organization as a board member in 2021.
