Community club Shabana FC has finally secured a return to the FKF Premier League after nearly two decades.
In a thrilling match against Migori Youth, Shabana FC emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 win at the Gusii Stadium on Sunday.
Under the guidance of coach Sammy Okoth, Shabana FC’s triumph propelled them to a commanding position in the National Super League standings, accumulating 64 points.
With a comfortable 11-point lead over third-placed Mara Sugar and only three rounds of matches remaining, Shabana FC’s return to the Premier League is now assured.
In a parallel feat, Murang’a Seal has also earned promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history. Their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Coastal Heroes placed them at the top of the NSL log with 64 points.
It is worth noting that Murang’a Seal have played one more match than Shabana FC, making the closing stages of the season a compelling battle between the two sides for the NSL title.
Shabana FC’s previous campaign for promotion fell short last year as they faltered in the final weeks of the season.
However, propelled by their devoted fan base, they have now fulfilled a long-standing dream of returning to the Premier League.
Similarly, Murang’a Seal has achieved their first-ever Premier League slot, coming agonizingly close last season only to be outdone by Wazito FC in the playoffs.
With the conclusion of the regular season nearing, Migori and Mara find themselves in a two-way tussle for the remaining playoff spot. Both teams currently hold 53 points with three rounds of matches left to determine their fate.
