Nation Media Group’s flagship website nation.africa has been down since Friday August 10.

This is after a technical fault on the Safaricom Cloud Servers crashed several websites that are hosted by the telecommunications giant in including nation.africa.

Since Friday, readers who have tried to read stories on nation.africa have been met with broken links.

The media house too has been unable to upload new stories on the site leaving its readers with cached content.

Despite the severity of the matter and the fact that its clients are losing millions of shillings in revenue, Safaricom has chosen to remain mum as its technical team tries to restore its servers.

Safaricom Cloud was launched in 2011 in partnership with Seven Seas Technologies, EMC and Cisco.

Speaking during the launch, the the Safaricom CEO, Bob Collymore said “Safaricom has invested KSh 2 Billion (about US $20.13 million) to launch the cloud and would be investing a further KSh 1.5 Billion in the next two years.”

Collymore also described Safaricom Cloud as the “largest native cloud deployment in Africa.”

Cloud services deliver various services through an Internet connection eliminating the need for businesses to invest in costly IT equipment for the same services. The services are payable in monthly subscriptions.

Cloud services usually result in more reliability and security as cloud providers are usually in a position to hire expertise that other firms would find expensive.
