Political journalist Justus Wanga has been appointed as Daily Nation’s news editor.

Wanga, who has been the Nyanza Regional editor for the last two years has already reported at the Nation Centre.

He is set to officially begin his new role on August 31, 2023.

A veteran journalist with over 15 years experience, this is Wanga’s first high profile role in the Kimathi street based media house.

He was for a long time a senior political reporter at the Sunday Nation before being sent to Kisumu to lead the bureau in 2019.

Those who have worked with Wanga in Kisumu say he is a level headed editor who propelled the bureau to be the best in terms of output and performance.

He is therefore expected to replicate this performance at the Nation Centre where he will be in-charge of collection of content countrywide.

His appointment as news editor comes at a time the Nation is in the middle of an ambitious restructuring exercise that hopes to transform it to a 21st century digital-first media house.

At the heart of the plan is a reduction on the reliance on its newspaper division which has been its bread and butter in order to survive the changing times.

The company also wants to increase its digital revenue and is in the final stages of reintroducing a paywall on its websites.

This means that Wanga’s in tray as news editor is already full as he starts his new role.
