Eight police officers, including one involved in the arrest of 19-year-old motorist Ian Njoroge, who assaulted a traffic officer, have been detained.
The arrests, which took place on Thursday have shed light on the alleged involvement of law enforcement officials in criminal activities.
Four of the officers are currently under investigation for their suspected involvement in the theft of approximately shs. 2.2 million from Rophine International School in Utawala.
The officers were found in possession of sh. 473,000, allegedly part of the school’s funds, during their arrest. Additionally, two civilians were detained in connection with the officers.
According to the school’s money manager, the incident occurred while he was transporting funds for staff payments. Criminals intercepted his vehicle and stole the money.
The subsequent investigation, supported by surveillance camera footage, led to the arrest of the suspects.
In another incident, an officer stationed at the Parliament Center was arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly soliciting sh. 40,000 from an individual.
