Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has urged Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to refrain from misleading Kenyans by claiming opposition to the Finance Bill 2024.
In a statement on X on Thursday, Kuria accused Gachagua of deceit regarding his sentiments about the controversial bill. Kuria asserted that Gachagua was part of the team that initially drafted the bill before President Ruto made concessions.
Kuria claimed that Gachagua chaired the meeting where the resolution to include value-added tax (VAT) on bread and milk was made. “The Committee meeting that endorsed the original Finance Bill, which included VAT for milk and bread, was chaired by the Deputy President. What a lying, dishonourable man,” Kuria stated.
On Wednesday, during a press briefing from Mombasa, Gachagua distanced himself from the bill and thanked President Ruto for withdrawing it. He also urged Ruto to start listening to the people and to move away from the ‘stone age politics’ of chest-thumping.
