One of the vocal opponents of the proposed taxes is missing after being abducted from a shopping center in South B, Nairobi.
The abduction, which took place on Sunday evening, is the latest targeting individuals perceived to be against the Finance Bill 2024.
Family and friends of Shad Khalif reported his disappearance after he was abducted by unknown individuals who had been trailing him in the area.
A black double-cab pickup and a white Toyota Prado were seen following the popular social media user before he was forcibly taken by men suspected to be plainclothes detectives, due to his prominent role in the protests.
Khalif has been outspoken in his opposition to the bill, even holding interviews explaining his involvement and that of his friends in the movement. He has insisted that the protests are organic, with no financier or leader behind them.
Khalif joins a list of others who have also been abducted by suspected state agencies, including Leslie Muturi (son to Attorney General Justin Muturi), Dr. Austin Omondi (aka JaPrado), Billy Simani (aka Crazy Nairobian), and Angel Mwende.
