A family in Bondo sub-county is mourning the loss of a relative who collapsed and died while giving testimony in a land succession case at the Bondo Magistrate’s Court.
The incident occurred around noon when Obonyo collapsed and was swiftly taken to a private hospital by his family, where he unfortunately passed away during treatment.
Siaya County Police Commander, Mr. Cleti Kimaiyo, reported that the incident was first reported to the Bondo police station by Mr. Dick Ochiel, the administrator of the Bondo law courts. An initial follow-up at Bondo sub-county hospital found no records of Obonyo’s treatment there.
Further investigation revealed that Obonyo had actually been taken to Bama Hospital’s Bondo branch. After his death was confirmed, the family reportedly took his body home without filing any police report regarding the incident.
The incident came hours after another court incident in Makadara, Nairobi where a senior police officer was gunned down and killed, moments after he had shot and wounded the magistrate.
