Members of Parliament have summoned representatives from State House to explain why Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s office has been operating without the necessary funding. Implementation Committee Chair Raphael Wanjala announced on Tuesday that the clerks have been instructed to write to the State House Comptroller, Katoo Ole Metito, requesting his appearance before the committee.
This decision follows remarks by Kanze Dena, the Spokesperson for the Office of the 4th President, indicating that retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has been personally funding his official office. Wanjala emphasized that Parliament allocates funds specifically for such purposes, and it is unacceptable for the former president to bear these expenses out of pocket.
The committee has expressed serious concerns over this issue and insists on ensuring that the allocated funds are made available for the retired President’s office. Although specific dates for the State House Comptroller’s appearance before Parliament have not been provided, MPs are keen on addressing this matter promptly to ensure proper disbursement of funds as appropriated by Parliament.
