Elias Makori, the seasoned sports journalist with a remarkable 32-year streak at Nation Media Group (NMG), is among the editors who have departed as part of the media house’s restructuring efforts.
Makori has taken the company’s decision with grace and gratitude, expressing appreciation for the opportunities afforded to him.
In a farewell note to collegues, Makori extended his willingness to continue nurturing aspiring journalists, showcasing his commitment to the profession’s growth and development.
“Whatever has a beginning certainly has an end,” Makori, the award-winning journalist, wrote to colleagues last evening. “The time has come for NMG and I to part company with deep, mutual gratitude. From Friday, June 14, I will be making my exit from Nation Centre.”
Having started his journey as a junior reporter in 1992, Makori’s ascent within the sports desk has been nothing short of impressive.
He has diligently climbed the ranks, holding pivotal roles such as Reporter, Sports Editor, and eventually, Managing Editor. As Lead Editor for Sports and Integration Projects, Makori has made significant contributions to NMG’s editorial landscape.
Makori, the longest-serving member of the Editorial team, celebrated his remarkable 30-year anniversary with Nation Media Group (NMG) two years ago, during a companywide event where he was honored by both management and colleagues.
His steadfast loyalty to NMG is exemplary, as he joins the ranks of a select few journalists who have dedicated over three uninterrupted decades to the company. Notably, Makori also assumed the role of Regional Editor for the North Rift Region from 2013 to 2016, further expanding his contributions while based in Eldoret.
“I’m extremely proud and humbled to have given my 32 years of dedicated, uninterrupted, unequivocal service to this great organization,” he said in his farewell note.
“I will remain indebted to NMG for shaping my professional career, and will certainly be happy to share my experience and offer mentorship at NMG – which will always remain my home – and beyond.”
