Daniel Koikai, father of the late reggae artist Njambi Koikai, reportedly took his own life on June 14th. An autopsy conducted on Tuesday, June 18th, revealed he died from blood loss caused by two deep self-inflicted neck wounds.
According to government pathologist Grace Mirigo, a knife found in Koikai’s hand during the discovery of his body at his Tatu City apartment is believed to be the weapon used.
Investigators from Ruiru’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) also found a text message sent by Koikai to Njambi’s sister shortly before his death.
The message simply read: “Am sorry, It had to come to this.”
Detectives believe Koikai’s emotional state may have been impacted by regrets over his absence from Njambi’s life, particularly during her time of need. His death tragically occurred the same day as Njambi’s burial ceremony at Langata Cemetery in Nairobi.
Just hours before his passing, Koikai delivered a eulogy at his daughter’s service, apologizing for his shortcomings and seeking her forgiveness.
“The time has come for me to atone for my acts of omission or commission on your final journey,” he said, expressing the pain his absence caused Njambi’s family and loved ones.
