The National Assembly Committee on Lands has summoned Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi over allegations of grabbing more than 1,500 acres of land belonging to squatters in Kesses, Uasin Gishu County.
During a fact-finding mission at Ngeria Estate in Kesses, Committee Chairman Joash Nyamoko announced that they have instructed their clerks to summon the MP after squatters named him in connection with the alleged land grabbing.
The committee also directed Moi University Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Kosgey to halt any farming activities on the disputed land until the issue is resolved. The visit included a deliberative session involving all stakeholders, including the squatters and the university management.
Earlier this year, the squatters wrote to the National Assembly seeking the committee’s intervention after unknown trespassers allegedly began tilling the land in preparation for the 2024 planting season, despite an ongoing dispute.
Nyamoko stated that the committee would thoroughly review the evidence presented, including additional documents from the university management supporting their ownership claim, before drafting a final report for tabling in the House.
The North Mugirango MP also warned against any attempts to defy the committee’s directive to suspend activities on the contentious land.
Prof. Kosgey led the Moi University team before the committee, while officials from the Ngeria Estate Squatters also presented their claim to the land.
