A police officer tragically lost his life after being run over by a police vehicle while on duty at Cheptais Junction in Bungoma County. The incident involved Fredrick Juma, a member of the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) in Bungoma West.
According to a police report, the accident occurred when Juma stopped a trailer for a routine check. The trailer, driven by Ali Abdullahi Bunyori, was traveling from Sirisia to Chwele. While Juma was questioning the driver, a Toyota Land Cruiser from Sirisia Police Station, driven by Gideon Magut, approached from the opposite direction. In an attempt to maneuver around the stationary trailer parked on the roadside, the Land Cruiser struck Juma.
“Due to the impact, the deceased was pushed ahead, suffered serious head injuries, and died on the spot,” the police report stated.
Juma’s body was taken to Life Care Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Both vehicles involved in the incident were detained at Chwele Police Station as investigations into the matter commenced.
