President William Ruto has arrived in Brindisi, Puglia, southern Italy for the G7 Summit. Ruto is one of the five African leaders invited to the G7 Summit in Italy and is expected to address the summit later on Friday.
The G7, which includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union, will discuss critical global issues related to international cooperation. Other African heads of state attending the summit include the presidents of Algeria, Egypt, and Tunisia.
Also present at the summit are Presidents Joe Biden of the United States, Mohammed bin Zayed of the UAE, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey, Kaïs Saïed of Tunisia (who is also the African Union Chair), and Mohamed Ould Ghazouani of Mauritania (the African Union chairperson).
Other notable attendees include Presidents Luis Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil, Javier Milei of Argentina, Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria, King Abdullah II of Jordan, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The summit will also be attended by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina, World Bank President Ajay Banga, International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, and OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann.
G7 countries share common values such as political pluralism, liberal democracy, and representative government.
At the G7 Summit, President Ruto will emphasize the importance of involving African countries in finding solutions to global challenges, including climate change, peace, and security.
