Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga took to social media to celebrate young Kenyans who took to the streets to protest against the proposed Finance Bill without being pushed by politicians.
The former premier in particular praised a young Gen Z girl who implored him to stay away from the Occupy Parliament protests on Tuesday. The young Tiktoker in a video asked the opposition leader to take a step back and let the younger generation take charge.
Acknowledging Raila’s longstanding efforts in leading demonstrations for Kenyans’ rights, she said, “We saw everything you did for Kenya; now let us. We miss you, but Agwambo, please don’t even come outside.”
She reassured Raila that she and her fellow young people would continue to fight for Kenyans’ rights on his behalf.
In response, Raila expressed his gratitude on his X account (formerly Twitter) to the young lady and all Kenyans who demonstrated. He stated that witnessing the young girl and others fighting for their rights made him feel like a proud father.
“I am a proud father today. Hongera sana to the young lady and all those who bravely stood up for their rights!”
