Former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta’s security details have not been reinstated since their withdrawal in July 2023, according to Kanze Dena, spokesperson for former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Dena highlighted that Mama Ngina has not received benefits amounting to 50% of what a retired president is entitled to, as mandated by law.
“The government has not provided any vehicles, and we want to clarify that on July 18, 2023, at 7 pm, all her drivers and security details were withdrawn via phone,” Dena stated. She refuted claims made by the government spokesperson that vehicles were provided to Mama Ngina, emphasizing that this is not the case.
Currently, the vehicles in use by Mama Ngina were allocated to her during the tenures of the late President Daniel Arap Moi and the late President Mwai Kibaki. Dena also mentioned that recent media reports about the reinstatement of these personnel are false.
Additionally, Dena pointed out that fuel cards for Mama Ngina’s vehicles were blocked and vehicle maintenance support has been denied since March 2023. “One of the vehicles has been unserviceable for approximately one year,” she added.
