At least seven people lost their lives and numerous others were seriously injured on Saturday evening after a lorry veered off the road in Timau, Meru County.
The tragic incident occurred at around 6:20 p.m. when the lorry, which was transporting construction blocks from Meru towards Timau, went out of control.
According to a report from the Timau Police Station, the lorry first struck a motorcycle, which was subsequently removed from the scene to an unknown location.
Following the initial collision, the lorry then hit several pedestrians, rolled multiple times, and eventually came to a stop in a ditch.
The victims included four men, two women, and a girl, with the motorcycle rider being pronounced dead upon arrival at the Timau Sub-County Hospital.
The exact number of injured passengers remains unconfirmed, but many were transported to nearby hospitals by good Samaritans.
The Timau Police have indicated that the investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
