The army has been deployed in Bangladesh to quell protests led primarily by students demanding fairness in employment opportunities.
A curfew has also been imposed in an effort to control the demonstrations, which have turned increasingly violent. By Friday evening, the death toll in the confrontations with police had reached 105.
The protesters are calling for more favorable employment policies and improved amenities, including better roads and security.
These protests have spread to at least 47 of the country’s 64 districts, reflecting widespread discontent among the youth.
