A prison officer from Kamiti Prison was arrested after protesting outside the Senate chambers on Wednesday, July 10.
According to a police report filed at the Parliament Police Station, the man was arrested for participating in an unlawful assembly.
The officer, identified by his superiors at Kamiti, was holding a placard outside the Senate gate that read, “We want justice, not your deepest condolences.”
It is believed his protests stemmed from the shooting deaths of protesters outside Parliament building during anti-tax bill protests over the past three weeks.
The government has reported that only 29 protesters were shot and killed during the protests, a figure disputed by human rights organizations.
