Timber XO, an entertainment venue associated with Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, has been temporarily closed for renovation following extensive damage caused during last week’s protests. The looters destroyed glass walls, windows, and doors, and stole liquor worth thousands of shillings.
The club, which opened in May, is undergoing repairs and will reopen once renovations are complete, according to a source close to the MP. This incident is part of the broader unrest that has swept through the region, leading to various criminal activities.
MP Sudi recently announced a sabbatical from public engagements and development activities, citing the misuse of his involvement in activities like Harambee against him. He stated that he will no longer participate in these activities as they have been used to malign his efforts.
In connection with the protests and the looting of Timber XO, at least 15 youths were presented in an Eldoret court on Monday. Chief Magistrate Dennis Mikoyan heard the police’s request for 21 days to hold the suspects in custody while investigations continue. The youths are being investigated for crimes including stealing, handling suspected stolen goods, and malicious property damage. Sudi is named as one of the complainants in the case.
