Standard Media Group has reportedly terminated the contracts of several interns in what insiders describe as a coercive move orchestrated by senior management and the Human Resources department.
According to multiple sources within the organization, the interns were informed of their abrupt termination on Friday morning, leaving them without pay for several months leading up to this decision.
The terminations occurred just a day after radio employees at Standard Media Group went on strike due to unpaid salaries.
Additionally, there is growing discontent among employees regarding a transformation committee that has been meeting daily throughout the month. Despite the financial challenges faced by the general workforce, members of this committee reportedly continue to receive full salaries and additional allowances.
This disparity has further fueled resentment within the company, with many employees viewing the committee’s actions as hypocritical and unjust.
On July 4th, staff from Standard Media Group’s Radio Maisha, Spice FM, Berur FM, and Vybez Radio walked out of their stations and gathered at the staff cafeteria. This action followed previous warnings to management that unless the overdue salary payments were promptly addressed, they would cease broadcasting operations.
