Tanzania has made significant strides in modernizing its railway transport system with the arrival of electric multi-unit (EMU) trains from South Korea.
These advanced electric trains, each consisting of eight carriages, are intended for Tanzania’s expanded Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) network and will begin serving the newly launched Dar es Salaam-Dodoma route from July 25, 2024.
Railway authorities in Tanzania have announced that an express train service between Dar es Salaam and Morogoro will be launched as early as this Friday, July 5. Each train can accommodate at least 580 passengers and reach a top speed of 160 km/h. The newly acquired trains will undergo quality tests before being officially launched for passenger service.
