Two people died on Tuesday after allegedly being subjected to mob justice during anti-government protests in Mlolongo, Machakos County, according to police reports.
The victims were reportedly among a group of suspected goons who had infiltrated the Gen Z protests along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, terrorizing locals, motorists, and pedestrians. The public apprehended them, leading to their deaths.
Athi River East Subcounty Police Commander Anderson Mbae confirmed that the deaths were reported to Mlolongo Police Station the same day.
“There were two reported deaths of unknown male adults who were victims of mob justice. They were lynched by demonstrators after allegedly being caught stealing from the public,” Mbae told The Star.
