The delay in salaries for Kenyan police officers serving in the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) in Haiti has been attributed to the finalization of disbursement processes.
The agency overseeing the mission has assured that the officers will receive their salaries this week. Each officer is expected to get at least Ksh. 100,000 in addition to their regular salary from Kenya.
The agency also mentioned that an “elaborate mechanism” has been established to ensure prompt payments at the end of each month moving forward.
The delay occurred despite the officers receiving their standard salaries, and the issue has now been addressed.
The MSSM, backed by various donor countries, is actively working to stabilize Haiti from criminal gang activities, with significant contributions and equipment from France and the USA.
The Kenyan police team, along with other international forces, has been making progress in combating gang violence, securing strategic locations, and working towards restoring peace and order in Haiti.
