The Amani National Congress (ANC) over the weekend held a pivotal pre-merger meeting where party leaders reached a unanimous decision to merge with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
This move includes continued support for President Ruto and aims to reshape the political landscape with a renewed focus on national unity and government strengthening.
ANC party leader Governor Issa Timamy emphasized the critical nature of this political moment.
“We are at a crucial juncture and must support each other to succeed,” he said.
Timamy confirmed that the party has endorsed the merger and he will lead the negotiations with UDA.
“We have completed all necessary constitutional and legal steps, and the next phase is to organize a joint congress with UDA,” he said.
Secretary General Omboko Milemba highlighted the extensive involvement in the discussions, noting participation from all party organs and elected officials, including former ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi.
“Today was about building unity and planning the merger. We are eager to work with the UDA to strengthen Kenyan unity and government effectiveness,” Milemba stated.
Deputy Party Leader Beatrice Adagala expressed enthusiasm from the women’s movement.
“We are excited about the merger with UDA and are committed to advancing the party to support President Ruto’s leadership and Kenya’s unity.”
Mudavadi praised ANC leaders for their commitment and stressed the importance of strategic positioning.
“The political landscape will shift by 2027. To succeed, we must finalize this merger swiftly and remain vigilant,” Mudavadi advised.
