Four people, including a child, have been reported burnt beyond recognition in a devastating fire that razed Toi Market. The victims were attempting to save their belongings when they were overpowered by the flames. The blaze has affected at least 2,000 traders, leaving many to count their losses.
Toi Market chair Kenneth Jumba expressed his suspicions that the fire was started intentionally. “We have never received the report on what caused the fire that we experienced last year. We are used to them,” Kenneth said.
This incident is not the first time Toi Market has suffered such a catastrophe. The market has become prone to frequent fires. In June 2023, traders woke up to find their property worth millions of shillings razed down.
The frequent fires have left traders in a state of perpetual uncertainty, and the latest tragedy underscores the urgent need for measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
