Anthony Mwangi, Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), has stepped down from his position. The announcement was made by Jane Karuku, Chairperson of the KAM Board of Directors, on Wednesday, August 14.
Karuku expressed gratitude for Mwangi’s service, stating, “The Association extends its sincere gratitude to Mr. Mwangi for his dedicated service and significant contributions to the Association and the manufacturing sector during his tenure,” as reported by TV47 Digital.
Mwangi began his role as KAM CEO on September 15, 2022, and served for nearly two years. Under his leadership, the Board noted that Mwangi played a crucial role in advancing the Association’s advocacy efforts towards achieving the Manufacturing 20by30 strategy. “Under his leadership, the Association has continued to position itself as a thought leader in manufacturing,” Karuku’s statement continued.
Mwangi brought over 20 years of experience in public policy, government relations, stakeholder engagement, communications, and business development across sectors including Transportation, ICT, Aviation, and Oil and Gas. His previous roles include positions at Bolt, Tullow Oil, IBM, and Kenya Airways. Mwangi holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Management from Strathmore Business School, a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nairobi, and a Certificate in Public Policy from New York University (NYU).
In the interim, Tobias Alando, the current Chief Operating Officer, will serve as Acting CEO while the Board begins the search for a new CEO. “We are confident that under Mr. Alando’s interim leadership, KAM will continue to build on the strong foundation laid by Mr. Mwangi,” Karuku said. “During this period of transition, we ask for the continued support of all our members, partners, and stakeholders as we work towards a seamless leadership change.”
The KAM Board assured stakeholders of its commitment to its strategic objectives and its mission to foster prosperity through sustainable industrialization. Established in 1959, KAM represents the manufacturing and value-added industries in Kenya.
