Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni publicly criticized Embakasi East MP Babu Owino on Tuesday for his support of Museveni’s political opponents. Speaking during the launch of Raila Odinga’s African Union Commission chairmanship bid at State House, Nairobi, Museveni expressed concerns about certain individuals within Raila’s camp, implying that they were unaware of the consequences of their actions.
Museveni specifically mentioned that intelligence reports frequently highlight Babu Owino’s involvement with anti-National Resistance Movement (NRM) groups in Uganda. The NRM is Uganda’s ruling party, led by Museveni himself.
“There are some individuals in Raila’s group who think I don’t know what they are doing. I am a consumer of intelligence services. I always see intelligence service reports. There’s a character called Babu. I always see Babu dealing with anti-NRM groups in Uganda,” Museveni remarked.
He further stated that, despite being aware of Babu’s activities, this was the first time he was publicly addressing the issue. “I have never accused him, but now I am accusing him,” Museveni said.
Babu Owino has been an outspoken supporter of Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, and has publicly aligned himself with Bobi Wine’s movement and ideologies.
