Former Law Society of Kenya President, Nelson Havi, has called on Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai to initiate an impeachment motion against Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
The challenge comes after Alai, who was elected on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket, accused a group of lawyers of conspiring with governors to embezzle county funds. On Thursday, Alai, a known controversial blogger, shared a letter from Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang’o, which revealed that Sakaja’s administration had disbursed KSh 1,345,440,849 in legal fees to 19 law firms.
“Kenyans, no one is looting this country, and especially the counties, more than a clique of well-known lawyers whose practice involves nothing more than signing documents,” Alai claimed. He further accused the governor of collaborating with these lawyers to siphon county funds, alleging that they shared 50% of the loot with Sakaja.
In response, Havi questioned why Nairobi MCAs had not yet initiated an impeachment process against Sakaja if they possessed evidence of corruption within the county. He criticized Alai and the MCAs for lacking integrity and being driven by financial motives, urging them to take action against the governor.
“You cannot be taking breakfast in ODM, lunch in UDA, and dinner in Jubilee. That is the problem we have with you, Nairobi City County MCAs: financially elastic and intellectually impecunious,” Havi wrote on X
