The body of Nicholas Kipkorir Ng’etich, a 29-year-old secondary school teacher at Emalindi Girls’ High School in Kakamega, has been recovered from River Yala after being missing for over two weeks. Ng’etich’s body was found at Ndanu Falls in the river on August 27, 2024. The retrieval and identification of the body followed an appeal made by human rights activists from Haki Africa, who had shared a video of the body being retrieved on social media.
According to Cornelius Chumba, a colleague of Ng’etich, the video prompted a search by relatives, friends, and colleagues, leading them to the Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary where the body was positively identified. Ng’etich had been reported missing since August 10, 2024.
Chumba disclosed that the body showed signs of having been murdered elsewhere before being dumped in the river. The condition of the body, which was decomposing and in a bad state, suggested that Ng’etich had met a violent end.
Family members, including Ng’etich’s uncle Samuel Rotich, expressed their grief over the loss of a promising young graduate. They have called on security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation to bring those responsible for the murder to justice.
