A Nairobi court has released activist Boniface Mwangi and four other individuals who were arrested during a demonstration on July 25, 2024.
Mwangi was detained along with Albert Wambugu, Robert Otieno, Pablo Chacha, and Erot Franco. They were initially granted bail when they first appeared in court on July 26, 2024.
On Tuesday, the court rejected a request from the prosecution for two additional weeks to complete their investigations against the five individuals.
The court ordered the release of their cash bail.
The group faced charges of publishing false information, unlawful assembly, and creating a disturbance.
Mwangi was among those arrested by the police during a march to honor victims of the ongoing anti-government protests.
