The popular Nairobi nightclub 1824 has reopened with a renewed focus on creating a more refined and respectful clubbing environment.
After its abrupt closure, the club’s management has introduced new rules and regulations aimed at enhancing the experience while maintaining a safe and mature atmosphere.
One of the proprietors of 1824, while discussing the reopening of the club, highlighted several challenges that Nairobi clubbers often encounter and suggested ways to address these issues to improve the overall nightlife experience.
Key among these new guidelines is a strict dress code, where patrons are expected to wear proper clubbing attire. For example, wearing a football jersey is only acceptable if the team is playing on that particular day, as the club seeks to avoid unnecessary tension and emphasize that different settings require appropriate attire.
“You can not have a Man U jersey and it’s not playing. You will create tension. Also, football jerseys are not club wear. But also, we say, look the part,” he says.
“You are in a public place, look the part. If you don’t dress up, don’t bother to come. We are not chasing money, we are here to shape the culture…”
In addition to the dress code, the club has also put in place measures to prevent harassment, particularly of women, and to encourage responsible behavior among all patrons.
The club has emphasised the need for maturity during the party, arguing that skimpy dressing and suggestive dressing may be offensive to some and so, one needs to mind their surroundings.
“Also, be mature. Don’t dance suggestively if you’re going to disturb the peace of the people around you…”
The new rules at 1824 reflect a broader effort to revitalize the city’s nightlife by shaping a culture of respect and consideration, ensuring that everyone can enjoy their night out in a safe and enjoyable environment.
