Female athletes and gender activists gathered in Eldoret for a major procession to escort the body of athlete Rebecca Cheptegei, as part of their ongoing fight against femicide and gender-based violence (GBV), which has claimed the lives of several top runners in recent times.
The procession, joined by human rights and women’s rights activists, began at Zion Mall and continued to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) morgue.
Cheptegei’s family will also take part in escorting her body from the morgue to her home in Endebes, Trans Nzoia.
The event is organized by the End Femicide Kenya Movement, a group advocating against the rising violence, emphasizing that “being a woman should not be a death sentence.”
