Kenya Airways, the national carrier, has issued an apology for recent flight delays and disruptions experienced by its passengers.
In a statement released on Wednesday, September 4, the airline explained that the delays were caused by unscheduled engine overhauls, which led to the grounding of two of its Dreamliner aircraft.
“Kenya Airways would like to apologize for the delays and disruptions that have been experienced in the recent past. These have been caused by unscheduled engine overhaul and unforeseen engine supply chain constraints, thus resulting in two 787 Dreamliner aircraft being grounded,” the airline stated.
Kenya Airways noted that it is currently working with its engine manufacturers to resolve the issue, which includes sourcing replacement engines. The airline assured its customers that a solution is expected soon.
However, in the event that the situation takes longer than anticipated, Kenya Airways indicated that it would realign its network to minimize delays and rescheduled flights.
“We expect this to be resolved shortly, and we will keep you updated. If this takes longer than expected, we will realign our network to reduce the number of delays or rescheduled flights,” the airline remarked.
In the meantime, Kenya Airways requested passengers to update their booking contact details, including email addresses and phone numbers, through the airline’s website or customer service channels, to ensure they receive timely flight updates.
On August 5, Kenya Airways made several flight adjustments, including the introduction of daily flights to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to meet growing demand. Additionally, the airline announced that, effective August 9, it would suspend all five flights to Bangui, Central African Republic.
