Olympic 800m bronze medalist Mary Moraa made history by setting a new world record of 1:21.63 in the women’s 600m at the ISTAF Berlin on Sunday evening.
Moraa delivered a dominant performance, leading the race from start to finish and shattering the previous record of 1:21.77, set by South African Caster Semenya in 2017, also in Berlin.
St. Vincent’s Shafiqua Malone finished second with a time of 1:22.98, while Germany’s Alicia Schmidt claimed third place, clocking in at 1:24.88.
This victory marks Moraa’s first race since her impressive performance at the Paris Olympics, where she earned a bronze medal in the 800m with a time of 1:57.42—her first-ever medal at that level of competition.
Adding to the significance of the achievement, Moraa’s world record came just 48 hours after her younger cousin, Sarah, secured a world title at the World Under-20 Championships in Lima, Peru, highlighting a remarkable moment for their family.
