Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his criticism of President William Ruto’s camp, further highlighting the growing rift within the Kenya Kwanza administration. During a church service in Thika on Sunday, Gachagua warned Ruto that if the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party is not properly managed, the President risks losing the trust of the Mt. Kenya region. Gachagua emphasized that the situation would be difficult to recover from if not addressed.
Referencing the challenges Ruto faced during his tenure as Deputy President, Gachagua reminded him of the promise to prevent his deputy from being humiliated. He argued that failure to uphold this pledge would erode trust in Ruto’s leadership.
“Ruto made one promise which does not require any funding, it does not require IMF or the World Bank. He promised that under his watch he would not allow his deputy to be humiliated. If he cannot keep that one promise, then there is no other thing people can trust him with,” Gachagua said.
Amid these tensions, Gachagua and his allies also accused the opposition ODM party, led by Raila Odinga, of stirring chaos within the ruling coalition. Cleopas Malala, the ousted UDA Secretary General, claimed that ODM lawmakers Junet Mohamed and Peter Kaluma were planning to table an impeachment motion against Gachagua in Parliament. The DP’s allies, including Gathoni wa Muchomba, Karungo Thangwa, and Mejjadonk, suggested that if the motion goes forward, it would likely have President Ruto’s backing.
Gachagua warned Ruto that proceeding with such actions would result in the loss of Mt. Kenya’s political support and urged the President to resolve internal party conflicts and focus on fulfilling their mandate to the Kenyan people.
