The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has appointed Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o to act as chairperson of the party central committee while Raila Odinga focuses on his bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.
The decision was made during a closed-door meeting chaired by Odinga to discuss internal party matters.
According to Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, such meetings are essential for reviewing the party’s status and upholding its democratic values.
“There is no need for speculation, innuendo, or propaganda regarding our meetings,” Sifuna stated.
Additionally, the party addressed issues in Kakamega County by summoning members, including Governor Fernandes Barasa.
ODM has accused Barasa of creating divisions within the party by opposing the designated Majority Leader in the County Assembly, Geoffrey Ondiro.
Sifuna noted that efforts to resolve these issues have been hindered by the actions of Barasa, the Speaker, and former Majority Leader Maina.
