A fifth-year medical student at the University of Nairobi, Collins Kiprop Kosgei, was found dead in what is currently being investigated as a suspected suicide. The 29-year-old’s body was discovered late Monday evening, September 2, in his residence at the main hall.
According to police reports, Kosgei’s head was covered with a nylon bag, which contained a small gas cylinder secured with a shoelace around his neck. At the time of the discovery, Kosgei was alone, and no suicide note was found at the scene. The exact motive behind the incident remains unclear.
His fellow students discovered the body and promptly alerted security personnel. The body has been taken to the mortuary for an autopsy and further examination.
Kilimani Police Chief Ben Kobia confirmed that the authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding Kosgei’s death. “This is a deeply tragic situation, and our team is actively looking into the details,” Kobia said.
