A woman is in critical condition at Migori County Referral Hospital after a brutal attack by a jilted lover who also slashed her son before taking his own life. The incident occurred at their home in Rapogi village, Kamgundho location, Uriri Sub-County, Migori County.
Rose Odhiambo, who is receiving emergency treatment, was attacked while preparing supper with her children. She had been living with the suspect for the past three years following the death of her husband. Tensions had escalated when the man decided to bring his stepdaughter into their home, a move that Rose did not approve of.
Rose reported that the man had become increasingly hostile, including throwing rotten eggs at her and damaging her clotheslines. Despite her complaints to the village elder, no action was taken until the elder witnessed the man carrying a machete and advised Rose to be cautious. The elder reported the situation to the area chief, who summoned the man. He admitted to the ongoing dispute and promised to cease his hostile behavior.
Unfortunately, the man’s intentions were far more sinister than anticipated. On the day of the attack, he violently assaulted Rose, severing her hands and inflicting severe head wounds on her son before committing suicide.
Rose’s distress and the escalating violence highlight serious issues regarding intervention and support systems for victims of domestic violence. The case has drawn attention to the need for more effective protection measures and responsive actions from local authorities.
