The Kenyan government has introduced a 6% increase in the minimum wage for various sectors, which will take effect on November 1, 2024. The new wage schedule, announced by Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua on October 12, applies to a range of occupations, including general laborers, farm workers, domestic workers, artisans, and drivers.
With the revised wages, unskilled workers will now earn a minimum monthly salary of KSh7,997, while herdsmen will receive KSh9,235. Househelps will be paid at least KSh9,129 per month, and drivers will earn a minimum of KSh11,718.
CS Mutua explained that the adjustment aims to reflect the current economic conditions and improve the standard of living for workers across the nation. The changes apply to both the General and Agricultural sectors, ensuring fairer compensation for workers in different industries.
