Qatar Airways has begun offering SpaceX’s Starlink internet service on its Boeing 777 aircraft, with the inaugural flight equipped with this technology departing on October 22 from Doha to London. The Starlink service, developed by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, aims to transform in-flight connectivity by providing high-speed and reliable internet access via a network of satellites in low Earth orbit, allowing passengers to enjoy seamless internet service even at cruising altitude.
The Boeing 777, known for its large size and extensive range, is now the largest passenger aircraft equipped with Starlink technology. This integration allows passengers to stream videos, play online games, and handle file transfers as effortlessly as they would on the ground.
Qatar Airways demonstrated the capabilities of Starlink’s in-flight internet service during the flight through a video call made by the airline’s CEO, Badr Mohammed Al Meer, to SpaceX founder Elon Musk. The call was streamed via YouTube, showcasing the technology’s potential.
The airline has committed to equipping its entire Boeing 777 fleet with Starlink by 2025 and will offer the service free of charge to passengers, setting a new standard for in-flight connectivity.
