Detectives are investigating claims by a French national who reported that suspected thieves broke into his house in Westlands, Nairobi, and stole his shotgun along with various household goods.
The incident is believed to have occurred between March and September 2024, while the homeowner, a licensed gun holder, was out of the country on a business trip to France for over six months.
The theft was discovered when the French national asked a friend to check on the property. Using a spare key sent from France, the friend entered the house and found it ransacked, with the firearm missing from a safe. Additionally, household items, electrical appliances, and sinks had been stolen or vandalized, according to police.
The homeowner had reportedly left an Ethiopian caretaker in charge of the house, but the caretaker has since gone missing and cannot be reached by phone. Authorities are now searching for the caretaker as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.
Police have visited the property and are working to determine the full extent of the theft.
