Nairobi, Kenya – At least 15,000 kilograms of contaminated rice have been uncovered in a storage facility in Embakasi, sparking concerns over food safety. Officials from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) discovered the tainted rice, which has reportedly been circulating in various markets across the country since May this year.
Following a tip-off, inspectors found the bags of rice concealed within the godown, hidden behind stacks of flour bales to avoid detection. KEBS has since collected samples of the rice for in-depth analysis to determine the extent and nature of the contamination.
The discovery has raised alarms, with KEBS urging caution among consumers and announcing that measures are being taken to prevent further distribution of the rice.
