Nelson Amenya, the whistleblower behind the exposé on the Adani Group’s controversial dealings in Kenya, has initiated a fundraising campaign to cover his legal expenses for multiple lawsuits. Amenya, currently studying in France, made a public appeal on Saturday, November 2, urging Kenyans to support his legal fees via GoFundMe and M-Pesa. In his statement, he explained that he’s facing defamation lawsuits after revealing details about the Adani Group’s proposed projects in Kenya, including a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and a 30-year partnership with Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO).
Amenya claims these projects, valued at nearly KES 500 billion (about USD 3.3 billion), put Kenya at risk of state capture, comparing it to similar concerns in India. Beyond Adani’s lawsuits, he is also dealing with legal actions from Senator Aaron Cheruiyot and the PR firm Oxygéne, which he alleges is involved in rehabilitating the Adani Group’s image.
Calling on the public, Amenya said, “This fight is not mine alone; it is ours as the people of the great Republic of Kenya.” He highlighted his commitment to truth and accountability, urging Kenyans to contribute to uphold these values. The whistleblower has also expressed concerns for his safety, claiming unknown individuals have visited his parents’ home, heightening the sense of risk surrounding his revelations.
