The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a weather forecast indicating that isolated storms and heavy rainfall are expected in various parts of the country from Wednesday through Sunday. Meru, Tharaka, Embu, Kirinyaga, Kitui, Garissa, and Tana River are likely to see daily rainfall levels exceeding 50mm.
In the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and Rift Valley, afternoon showers and thunderstorms are anticipated, along with occasional showers at night. Temperatures in these regions will range between 8°C and 33°C. North-western Kenya can expect showers during the day and at night, with temperatures varying between 10°C and 36°C.
The highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi County, will experience morning rains, afternoon showers, and scattered night-time showers, with temperatures from 8°C to 28°C. In North-eastern Kenya, morning rains and occasional afternoon and night-time showers are forecasted, with temperatures ranging from 17°C to 38°C. The south-eastern lowlands are expected to receive morning rains in some areas, with scattered showers later in the day and night, and temperatures will vary between 12°C and 34°C. At the Coast, there will be daytime and nighttime showers, with temperatures between 24°C and 34°C.
These weather patterns signal the beginning of Kenya’s short rains season, with scattered showers already being recorded in some areas.
