The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall across many parts of the country for the week of November 19 to 25, with varying intensity expected. Regions such as the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Southeastern lowlands, the Coast, Northwestern, and Northeastern areas will experience rain during this period.
Counties set to receive rainfall include Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia, and Migori. Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, and West Pokot are also expected to experience morning rains followed by afternoon and nighttime showers with thunderstorms in some areas.
The Central Highlands, Western Kenya, and parts of the Rift Valley may experience isolated heavy rainfall of 20-50mm, with localized flooding possible. Director of Meteorological Services Kennedy Thiong’o urged residents to remain prepared, noting that morning, afternoon, and night showers will occasionally spread to multiple areas.
In the Southeastern lowlands, including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita-Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River County, scattered rains are expected throughout the day. Similarly, the coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, along with parts of Tana River County, will experience morning, afternoon, and night showers.
Daytime temperatures will remain high in the Coast, Northeastern, and Northwestern regions. Lodwar and Wajir will record highs of 37°C, Mandera 35°C, and Voi and Lamu 34°C, while Mombasa, Malindi, and Mtwapa will see temperatures of up to 33°C.
Nighttime conditions will be chilly, with temperatures dropping below 10°C in some areas of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley, and the Southeastern lowlands. This will affect counties such as Narok, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi, as well as Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita-Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River. These cold nights will follow morning rains and afternoon and night showers.
