The government has reportedly restricted access to the messaging platform Telegram across the country, amid concerns that it is being used to facilitate cheating in the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, which began on Monday.
Since the start of the national exams, an increasing number of Telegram channels have emerged, allegedly sharing exam materials and selling them at steep prices.
In response, exam sector stakeholders have reportedly intervened to limit access to the platform in an effort to preserve exam integrity. As a result, millions of Kenyans with Telegram accounts have encountered issues accessing the app since Thursday.
The legitimacy of the exam papers circulating on these channels has not been confirmed, raising questions about the extent of cheating through the platform.
